Prepare & Submit Proposal

DCA utilizes an online application platform powered by SurveyMonkey Apply. The process to prepare and submit a grant proposal will be done almost entirely online, with the exception of the final step.

Step 1 – Register. Click on the following link to access DCA’s online grant submission system:

https://dca-la.smapply.org

New applicants will need to register for an account. This is a quick process where an applicant enters his or her name and an email address. A confirmation email will be sent to your email account with a new link. Clicking on this link will complete the registration process. Returning applicants should be able to log on to their existing profiles.

Please note that the email address associated with the application will be the same email address used to notify the applicant of the result of the application. It is recommended that your organization use a standardized email address that any new staff can access.

After registering, applicants will need to complete a profile summary before being able to view the application form and requirements. This summary is basic organization information that will be used to auto-fill certain sections of the Application forms, and if you are a successful applicant, generate a City contract for your grant. With this in mind, it is vital to be accurate. The first field will be the legal name of the organization. Be sure the name that is entered matches exactly the organization’s name as it is listed on its 501c3 determination letter from the IRS.

Step 2 – Complete the Online Application.

Information entered in the forms may be saved one section at a time as the form is being filled out. Be sure to save often.

Once all the forms have been filled out, and all artistic documentation, ancillary materials, and supplemental items have been uploaded, the proposal is ready to be submitted.

Step 3 – Submit the Application. Submitting the application is a two-part process:

Part I – Electronic Submission: Click on “Submit” to electronically submit the grant proposal. Once an applicant clicks on “Submit,” no more edits or additions to the proposal may be made. The deadline for the electronic submission is 11:59 pm on Friday, August 30, 2024.

Part II – Hard Copy Submission: A confirmation email will be sent to you from dca.grants@lacity.org to verify receipt of your electronic submission. This email will also contain instructions on printing a hard copy of your proposal.

Print out a hard copy of your proposal, and attach a signed FY 26 Grant Application Certification Statement as a cover letter (this Certification will need to be signed by an authorized staff person and by a non-compensated Board member). Mail the Certification and the hard copy of your proposal to the DCA Grants office.  The hard copy submission must be postmarked by Wednesday, September 3, 2024.

Please mail your hardcopy submission via US Postal Service to ensure it is successfully received by DCA.
