These project-grants allow accomplished artists to create new work while DCA organizes an online and\/or printed catalog to document and market the selected artists and their new works as one cross-section of the exciting Los Angeles art scene.<\/p>\n<p>Master Artist: The term Master Artist refers to every maker with fifteen or more years of professional experience publicly presenting self-conceived design\/visual or theater or music projects. A dancer-choreographer with eight or more years of professional experience publicly presenting self-conceived dance-works is also considered \u201cmid-career\u201d. All mid-career and late-career artists are eligible to be called \u201cmasters\u201d. These terms overlap. The COLA-IMAP program is not designed to promote rising starts and emerging artists.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Goals<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>to honor a spectrum of the City\u2019s most creative artists who are each dedicated to an ongoing body of excellent work, who represent a relevant progression through their pieces or series and exemplify a generation of core ideas in their field, who are respected by their peers and are role models for other artists because of their distinguished record.<\/li>\n<li>to support artists who want to attempt new work with increased freedom to innovate and experiment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2026-27 COLA-IMAP grants will be offered to individuals in the following discipline categories:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>design\/visual artist (including architect, graphic designer, and product designer such as fashion designer),<\/li>\n<li>literary artist (poet or fiction writer), or<\/li>\n<li>performing artist (solo choreographer-dancer, solo composer-musician, solo theatrical performing artist, or multidisciplinary performing artist)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Cultural Trailblazers Program<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If not selected by peer panel for a COLA-IMAP grant, applicants may be recommended as Cultural Trailblazers.
