Eligibility

Neighborhood Expressions:
Applicants must be individual freelance artists who reside within the municipal boundaries of the City of Los Angeles with three or more years of presenting experience.

Arts & Social Wellness and International Festivals & Intercultural Foods:
Applicants must be: Los Angeles County-based artist groups/collectives (applying under the name of a single creative leader), limited partnerships, commercial businesses, or nonprofit organizations that do not currently have an active grant contract with DCA. Priority is given to applicants that are headquartered in the same City council district as their proposed project. Although parties who currently have a grant contract with DCA cannot apply, such groups/organizations may collaborate in proposed projects as a named vendor or producing agent in a proposal submitted by an eligible lead applicant. Current DCA grantee organizations are especially encouraged to collaborate in ASW projects proposed by Environmental Betterment businesses. Before applying, we strongly encourage you to either telephone or email DCA Grants Staff to outline your proposed idea.

Applicants are required to give the exact addresses of their projects or a range of addresses (example: a block party that runs from 2000 to 2100 on X Street). A second requirement of submission is the inclusion of two letters of support: one from the site owner/operator (e.g. the owner of a wall facing X Street , an empty lot facing Y Street, or the plaza of the Z subway station). Each applicant’s second letter of support should demonstrate a partnership or alliance with at least one neighborhood group in the same jurisdiction. Hence, applicants should be discussing/planning their project ideas with neighborhood groups and businesses (e.g. neighborhood councils, business improvements district associations, local chambers of commerce) and/or the City Council Office of the jurisdiction. Applicants should not be proposing “urban surprises”. Applicants are not required to raise additional funds to match their city investment; however, crowd-funding and supplementary sponsorships are certainly welcome as indication(s) of grassroots support.

International Participation And Promotion Projects:
The lead applicant for an IPAPP grant must be a 501(c)3 organization arts organization headquartered in the City of Los Angeles (and may include current DCA Cultural Grant Program grantees) with an operating budget of less than $5 million, and modest experience in travel-touring abroad. All artistic mediums are welcomed for application. Applying organizations must carry sufficient insurance policies to cover their creative workers’ proposed international travel. In this special category, collaborations (art-teams composed from several expert-agencies or expert-individuals) are  most competitive as a way to demonstrate how regional players can work together to showcase the best of LA abroad, or share in hosting-presenting expertise of international artists coming to LA.
